5/11/15 Update: The Marine Corps has identified the Marine who was found unresponsive in her Okinawa barracks as Lance Cpl. Jessica Taylor, 20 of Ridgeway, Virginia, according to the Marine Corps Times. She was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion and stationed at Camp Hansen in Okinawa, Japan.
There are no details with her cause of death and officials state that it is still under investigation. Taylor’s Company Commander, Captain Justin Murphy stated, “[Taylor] was an aggressive, hardworking Marine whose efforts improved mission readiness with Engineer Company B. She possessed a warm, charismatic energy that was contagious to all Marines within the company. [Taylor] was like a little sister to everyone within the unit and will be greatly missed.”

5/8/2015: Marine based in Okinawa, Japan has been found dead in the barracks. This is the second Marine in two weeks to be found dead. Last week a Hawaii-based Marine, Gunnery Sgt. Eugene Jones was found unresponsive in his barracks room at the Staff Noncommissioned Officer Academy in Camp Pendleton.
According to Marine Corps Times, “The Corps is investigating the death of a female Marine who was assigned to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, based out of Okinawa, Japan, according to a news release.
She was taken to the U.S. Naval Hospital in Okinawa on Friday after she was found unresponsive in her barracks at Camp Hansen. She was pronounced dead at 1:06 a.m.
Officials are withholding the Marine’s name until 24 hours after the next of kin have been notified. No additional details were immediately available.”
Official with the III Marine Expeditionary Force issued this statement, “We at 3rd MLG send our thoughts and prayers to the family of this Marine, and are saddened by the loss of one of our members’
