A U.S. Marine was killed and several others injured in Iraq by indirect fire, the Pentagon confirmed on Saturday.
Islamic State militants fired a rocket at a small outpost near Mahmour, a small operation base where U.S. servicemembers are advising Iraqi forces, according to NBC news.
“The Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve can confirm the death of a Coalition service member in northern Iraq today as a result of enemy action,” the U.S.-led coalition announced.
The last U.S. service member killed in Iraq was in October 2015.
