Marines are celebrating everywhere, President-elect Donald Trump has chosen retired Marine Gen. James N. Mattis as his next Secretary of Defense, according to the Washington Post.
It’s been four years since Mattis retired from the Marine Corps, but he still has one hurdle to go before he can legally accept the job. And it’s going to take an act of Congress.
Current law stipulates that defense secretaries must not have been on active duty in the previous seven years, according to the news piece.
Mattis famous for covering a young NCO’s Christmas Day duty so he could spend the day with his family. He has many nicknames which include “Mad Dog” and the “Warrior Monk.”
