It’s that time of year again for Stroller Warriors® Camp Pendleton (SWCP) to lace up their running shoes with great purpose, in support of the Semper Fi Fund. This relay marks the running groups 3rd year passing Old Glory as the baton to the next leg of mother runners over a 31.5 mile stretch across Camp Pendleton, in an effort to honor and raise money to support the military community.
More than 70 military spouses will be participating in this years annual relay as runners, volunteers, and spectators this Saturday. In addition, many of the members’ Marines and Sailors will be running along side them, running in honor of wounded, ill and injured service members and families. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Semper Fi Fund, where 94 cents per every dollar goes directly to the wounded warriors. And with the aid of social media, SWCP members have already been able to reach this years goal of $5,000 in just over 2 weeks, with donations still coming in (click here if you’d like to donate).
The relay begins at 7am on June 20th, at Mance Buchanan Park in Oceanside and will end at Camp San Mateo at the Historic Site inside the Cristianitos Gate. If you happen to see this fine group running through the gate of Del Mar, down the hill of Wire Mountain and onward to Stuart Mesa, feel free to share a wave or a smile. But if you really want to motivate them, holler “Get Some!” or “BAMR!” Better yet, stop and give them a high-five! They absolutely relish a spontaneous high five!
