A Florida man who left the Marine Corps in disgrace reportedly lied to get past security checkpoints at Palm Beach International Airport, getting him closer to the Commander-in-Chief than he needed to be.
Brand Mark Magnan, who was dishonorably discharged from the Marines for sex offenses, got past a number of checkpoints before being stopped by a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy, who requested to see credentials.
Claiming he was with the Marine Air Wing, Magnan presented paperwork with the USMC seal, but authorities pressed the issue, noting Magnan wasn’t in uniform.
According to the Marine Corps Times, the deputy contacted someone in the squadron, who said Magnan’s credentials were fake. Magnan then backtracked, telling deputies he was a retired member of the squadron.
After a check was conducted with the FBI, it was revealed that Magnan was lying to authorities, and he was charged with false presentation of an officer or employee of the United States.
Magnan faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He bonded out of jail on Monday.
