A Marine was found unresponsive in the vicinity of his barracks Friday at Camp Lejeune, according to the Marine Corps Times.
The Marine has been identified as Lance Cpl. Ricardo A. Rodriguez Jr., 25, assigned to Foxtrot Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines. Rodriguez was transported to Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune at 7:12am was later pronounced dead.
Rodriguez, an armory custodian, entered active duty on Jan 23, 2012 and recently returned from a deployment with the Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force–Crisis Response–Africa.
The is an ongoing investigation into the Marine’s death by Naval Criminal Investigative Service, according to Marine officials.
This is the second fatality at Camp Lejeune which took place in the last week. Cpl. Alexis Aaron Alcaraz, 22, serving with 1st Battalion, 8th Marines collapsed after a training hike and is also under investigation.
