It was supposed to be a surprise from a Marine to his younger sister on graduation day — but the school district denied the Marine’s request.
Matt Scott reached out to Apple Valley High School to see if he could hand his sister her diploma on stage.
The school’s answer of no isn’t sitting well with the family — they believe it’s tied to something much bigger.
Years earlier, the Marine’s sister Lauren Scott, was injured during a prank incident and her family sued the school district.
She suffered spinal fractures and has lasting injures from the YouTube prank called “table topping” after falling at the school.
The district insists the incident didn’t play any part in the decision. Instead the school says only board members may hand out diplomas, as to not take away from the other students graduating.
The school has suggested that they’re open to alternative ideas for something special for Lauren.
