A retired Marine sergeant major -who is in charge of a California Young Marines unit- has been charged with child molestation.
Jason Deitschman pleaded “not guilty” to one count of “annoying or molesting a child” on Nov. 27, court documents revealed.
Enlisting in 1989 and retiring as a sergeant major in 2019, he became the commander of a California Young Marines unit.
In addition to his affiliation with the Golden Gate Young Marines, Deitschman has been with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office since 2010. He has since been placed on administrative leave.
According to the Marine Corps Times, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation.
The alleged molestation reportedly involved a young teenage girl in the Young Marines unit, who was given a back massage and had her bra unstrapped by Deitschamn, who then allegedly placed his hands under her shorts.
Afterwards, the retired sergeant major allegedly sent very explicit texts to the girl.
“We have zero tolerance for this behavior and insist that the health, safety and welfare of every Young Marine is, always has been and always will be, our number one priority,” stated retired Marine Col. William Davis, the current national executive director and CEO of Young Marines.
The Young Marines is a non-profit organization that works with young people to become better citizens.
