Veterans Day to me will always be a day where I thank the members of our community. When I consider all the sacrifices made, I think about the price our children have paid to serve this great nation.  They’ve moved frequently, changed schools, said goodbye to old friends and made new ones, and the lost time with family members due to long distances.

I think back to when our family first experienced a deployment with young kids at home.  Our three year old didn’t quite understand where daddy was.  We bought a large map and placed a pin at home and another pin in Afghanistan, connected a string, and regularly talked about how daddy was serving our country.

Many today believe that our troops have technology at their fingertips, but that’s not always the case. Our family has never had the ability to use Skype or Facetime with one another during the last four deployments. We know we’re not alone as many Marines are serving on the front lines and have given up comfort items to fight a war, so we do our best to stay connected through photos and an occasional phone call.

We’ve been able to capture some very special moments on camera.  Almost all of them are connected in some way to our family’s military service.  When it’s all said and done, it will be those precious family memories and photos which will be celebrated and cherished most.

This photo shown was our son reuniting with his daddy.  These photos ring true of our military world sacrifices with the pain, sadness, and joy on their faces of having to say goodbye for so long.

We’ve all heard the saying that a photo is worth a thousand words, but Wahl recently took that statement to heart so they could honor our military families, right here at home. They recently held the ‘A Photo is worth $1000’ for the best moment captured from those serving on the home front.

Please join me in to celebrate the photo contest winners in this special Veterans Day video below to honor our families. Wahl is a leading manufacturer of hair clippers, facial hair trimmers and other personal care products.
