The Marine Corps is conducting an investigation into the death of a recruit who died Friday while attending boot camp at Parris Island, Marine officials stated.
The 20-year-old recruit, Raheel Siddiqui from Taylor, Michigan, died on Friday, just 11 days after beginning his training at South Carolina’s Parris Island, according to the Daily Mail.
Capt. Gregory Carroll, a Marine spokesman, stated that the circumstances surrounding the recruit’s death were not clear, but that NCIS is currently investigating.
A small number of recruits have died while attending boot camp. The Washington Post reported that a “handful of recruits and staff have died” post 9/11 — the recruits passed from drowning incidents and collapsing after exercise.
