The media is reaching out to military supporters and fellow veterans, encouraging them to attend the funeral of an abandoned Vietnam Marine.

“He fought for us so we could stand here today and so I thought, he was abandoned in life at some point but we don’t want him to be abandoned in death,” Sara Thompson the General Manager for Indiana Funeral Care to WTHR.

Sixty-eight-year-old Glenn Shelton served in Vietnam and was injured on the battlefield. Somehow he ended up in Indiana, originally hailing from Kentucky.

“Essentially, we have date of birth and his last known address and that is essentially it. We were able to find out he is a veteran and that he is a Marine, served in Vietnam and during that time was awarded a Purple Heart,” Thompson said.

Indiana Funeral Care doesn’t want Shelton to be buried alone so they’re reaching out asking Hoosiers to attend the funeral.

“We had a call from a Marine, who works with a hospice group, who asked if he could say a few words on his behalf, since he was a Marine,” she added.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Indiana Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis. A Veteran themed funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place privately at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana.
