Trainees at Recruit Depot Parris Island will graduate an hour earlier Friday because of the impending threat of Hurricane Irma.
Friday’s graduation for Fox Company is now scheduled for 8 a.m. at the depot, according to Parris Island’s website.
In terms of possible evacuation, no decision has been made to evacuate the depot at this time, according to the Corps.
“In the event of evacuation, recruits will be bused to a safe haven at the Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia,” according to a statement on the depot’s website. “Residents of Parris Island will also be afforded ample warning to evacuate inland in accordance with County and State directives via well-established hurricane evacuation routes.”
“All military and civilian personnel, to include their family members, are encouraged to begin preparations for the possibility of sheltering in place and review their Family Evacuation Plans in preparation for potential effects of Hurricane Irma.”
Air Station Beaufort and Naval Hospital Beaufort are monitoring Irma and will keep personnel updated through their websites, Twitter accounts and Facebook pages.
Military personnel and their families can also monitor the Inclement Weather Hotline at 1-800-343-0639.
