Human remains found on Air Station Miramar Thursday may be those of a Scripps Ranch man who vanished nearly two months ago, San Diego police said.
Forensic tests will determine if the remains are those of 85-year-old Tai Heng Sun. Clothing found at the scene match what Sun was wearing when he disappeared on June 15, police Lt. Mike Holden said.
Sun’s family reported him missing that night when they arrived home and discovered he was not there. He apparently went on a walk around 5 a.m. and did not return. He was spotted about 8 a.m. on Stonebridge Parkway near Via Santa Pradera, about a mile east from his house, police said.
On Thursday, Naval Criminal Investigative Services personnel found the remains on the eastern edge of the Marine Corps base. San Diego police were notified about 2:30 p.m.
