A Navy chaplain was removed from his Marine Corps Reserve command last month after he was videotaped having sex with a woman at a New Orleans bar.
Navy Capt. Loften Thornton, the force Chaplain, was fired by Lt. Gen. Rex McMillian, the commander of Marine Forces Reserve, “due to a loss of trust and confidence,” Maj. Andrew Aranda, a spokesperson for Marine Forces Reserve, originally told the Marine Corps Times.
The “Marine Corps takes all allegations against any of our Marines or sailors seriously, and they are thoroughly investigated,” Wong said.
Wong declined to provide further details but two Defense officials confirmed authorities were in possession of a video that allegedly shows Thornton having sex with a woman out front of the Crown & Anchor Pub.
The owner of the pub, Neil Timms, told USA Today Thornton and the woman had sex in front of the pub by the road near some picnic tables.
The bar is in the Algiers Point neighborhood, across the Mississippi from the French Quarter, and only a five-minute drive to the Marine Reserve facility.
Timms says he is cooperating with the investigation.
