A Muslim United States Marine veteran has set out to create conversation with the public about Islam and answer any questions they may have.
“There’s a lot of stereotypes out there these days that a guy who looks like myself… perhaps brown skin, a beard… may be assumed to be some sort of terrorist or a bad guy,” says Marine veteran Monsoor Shams.
But that’s simply not true, says Sham.
“What I want to do is destroy those myths. And I want people to know that that guy could be a not only be a proud Muslim, a proud American, but also a United States Marine,” says Sham.
A recent poll revealed that 47% of those asked stated that they did not personally know a Muslim.
To date, Sham has answered questions in Houston, Portland, Denver, Seattle, and now Sham’s hometown of Balitmore.
Sham left the Marine Corps with an honorable discharge as a Corporal.
