Marine veteran and one of the only living Medal of Honor recipients, Corporal W. Kyle Carpenter, used his body to shield his fellow brothers in arms from a grenade blast and suffered massive injuries. He lost one of his eyes and sports a glass EGA (Eagle, Globe and Anchor), lost most of his teeth in the incident and countless lacerations. David Letterman featured Carpenter on his show where he talked about his injuries.

It’s been over 5 years later and Carpenter has endured multiple surgeries and has made an amazing recovery. He no longer looks like the photo where people were introduced to him. Carpenter’s instagram account, ChicksDigScars, gives an insider’s view to show the progress he’s made during his recovery.
