Marine Who Died from Gunshot Wound at Camp Pendleton Shooting Range ID’d

A Marine at Camp Pendleton was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head early on Monday.  Officials said the Marine was on Marksmanship Training Range 214, conducting live fire exercises with his unit, the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.

According to KTLA the Marine was identified as Lance Cpl. Dominic E. Schraft from Vienna, Missouri.

At the time of his death, Schraft was assigned to Battery R, 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, the release stated.

The exact cause of his death has not been released and are currently under investigation.

Schraft joined the Marine Corps just over a year ago and served as a field radio operator, according to the release. He never deployed during his career in the Marine Corps.
