A San Antonio man and Marine veteran pulled over to help a driver whose SUV stalled across the busy highway where he was hit by another car and died instantly.

The Marine veteran has been identified as 35-year-old Marine Staff Sergeant Arturo “Arty” Elias. He was a father of three children and a 12-year veteran of the Marine Corps.

“It’s just not real. It doesn’t feel real. He must have seen something really bad to have stopped,” said Elias’ wife Michelle.

A GoFundME page has been set up to help pay for the funeral.

  1. RIP brother. You’re guarding the gates of Heaven, now. Note to family…I noted a Go Fund Me page was created for funeral expenses You don’t pay for that, his DD214 will. Call the VA at 800-827-1000 to help you with it. I know it doesn’t alleviate your grief, but it will help with the expenses.

  2. Ma’am, I am so sorry for your loss. I have prayers and love sending to you and your family. I cannot begin to put into words how grateful I am to your husband for his service and his kindness. I pray to find answers . I don’t have much and my son, my Marine is deployed but I am willing to help in any way. Please don’t hesitate to contact me. God bless and may he be at peace and watching over you always.
