Investigators believe a Marine vet is the fourth man to die from the same drug dealer’s deadly batch of heroin.
Police arrested dealer Beverly Burrell in May after linking her to the deaths of three other men; police fear there could be many more victims.
Marine veteran Dustin Peltier overdosed at the age of 31.
He joined the Marine Corps, following in his grandfather’s footsteps. He served two tours in Iraq, eventually leaving the Corps.
Hi mother, Carla Peltier, says that Dustin returned home from deployment a changed man, that he carried guilt with him after losing a close friend to an IED.
Dustin wasn’t treated for PTSD while in the Corps, but his family says they fought hard to get him medical benefits.
“We felt like they considered him damaged, so he wasn’t worth as much to them anymore and he wasn’t worth fixing,” Carla said.
Dustin struggled with addiction and was in and out of treatment for drugs and alcohol for several years.
Finally, the call came to Carla that she’d been dreading, “He said, ‘I’m sorry, but they found Dustin dead,’” Carla said.
In the three other past deaths, tests report the heroin was laced with fentanyl — a potentially lethal drug even at low doses.
