A Marine vet and father of two was stabbed to death outside a bar in California, after celebrating his sister’s birthday with family and friends.
28-year-old Nicholas Males was killed outside Elite Bar & Lounge in Hemet. Males was visiting from nearby Whittier, Calif., to help his sister celebrate her birthday Saturday night.
His brother told the Whittier Daily News that at about 11pm, Males was dropped off at Shooters Sports Bar where he was meeting his sister, brother-in-law, and some cousins.
When they left Shooters to start heading home after 2am, a group of people attacked them while they walked through the parking lot, police say.
“It was just a whole bunch of drunk people thinking they were tough,” Chris Males said. “They defended themselves the best they could…we live in a town where people just like to get a rise out of others,” he added.
Family members say Males had another baby on the way with his longtime girlfriend. He also had two young daughters.
“It’s very devastating,” his brother said. “He was a great father. He really was a great father. We’re hurting right now.”
Males, who served in the Marine Corps for about 4 years, had been working at the family’s consulting business until recently.
Police have not yet made any arrests in the case. They’re asking anyone who witnessed the stabbing or who has other information to contact them at 951-765-2396.
