A new Vietnam Veterans Memorial was erected in Boise, Idaho. Just weeks after its placement, a thief pried off six medal medallions from the piece, worth $3300.

A relative received what was believed to be a stolen medallion and called local police. Authorities investigated and arrested 29-year-old Raymond Rubalcaba, according to NWCN, after discovering four of the missing medallions at his home.

Charges were brought against Rubalcaba for grand theft and possession of a controlled substance.

Rubalcaba’s grandfather, a Marine veteran, called the local news station to confirm it was his grandson arrested. He told KTVB news that his grandson gave him the medallion to thank him for his service.

One medallion is still missing, police are asking for help to locate it.
