The brother of a disgraced federal law enforcement officer and Marine veteran accused of stealing thousands from the Department of Veterans Affairs was detained at Miami International Airport on Sunday.
US Marshals moved onto MIA’s tarmac and arrested 29-year-old Daniel Barros, who was aboard an incoming Iberia Airlines flight from Russia.
No stranger to being in cuffs, Barros was arrested previously in 2011 for impersonating a police officer, when he pulled a woman over in a BMW equipped with emergency signal equipment.
According to WSVN, Barros is the younger brother of Adolfo Barros, a Marine veteran and former VA Police officer, specializing in fraud investigation as a Health and Human Services special agent.
Claiming he had been injured on the job, Adolfo reportedly submitted false documentation to support his line of duty injury claim, and made his brother his paid caregiver for two years.
The brothers could face up to twenty years in prison for their crimes.
