A U.S. Marine has been arrested on charges of having sex with an underage girl he was trying to recruit, according to the local police department.
Sgt. Joshua T. Mann, 26, has been arrested by authorities on two counts of sexual activity with a 16- or 17-year-old, according to The Ledger.
Mann met the 17-year-old while attempting to recruit students at Barstow High School in February. The girl wasn’t eligible at the time but Mann stayed in touch because she would meet eligibility requirements early in the school year, according to the news source.
The relationship was professional at first. The girl took the ASVAB exam and physical fitness test in May 2017. However, the pair reportedly engaged in sexual encounters twice in June.
The situation came to light when the victim was talking to a friend about the incidents and another student overheard and reported it to a teacher.
Mann made his first court appearance on Friday.
