A US Marine recruit training in California died Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack on Friday.
The unidentified Marine recruit reportedly went into cardiac arrest around midnight, prompting a drill instructor to perform CPR until first responders could assume responsibility for the patient and transport him to a nearby medical center.
Arriving in “critical condition,” the Marine died at 11:43 Sunday morning.
“Supporting the recruit’s family is our top priority and we continue to work closely with them during this most difficult time,” said Brig. Gen. William Jurney, commander of Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, in an emailed statement to the Union-Tribune.
The incident is currently under investigation. The comrades of the deceased recruit are set to graduate on June 15.
