CAMP LEJEUNE — There’s been a string of shark attacks on the east coast within the last ten days and one of those hit close to home in our military community. A Camp Lejeune spokesman confirmed that an active duty Marine was treated and released from the Naval Hospital after an attack from a shark.

Spokesman Nat Fahy stated the incident took place Saturday night when a 32-year-old man was admitted before 10:41 p.m after being transported to the hospital by a friend. He was released at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday with injuries to his right hand and forearm.

Local news outlet WWAY reports, “Pender County Emergency Management and Surf City Police say they received no calls of shark bites in the area, so the location of the incident is unknown. This is the 8th incident involving sharks on the North Carolina coast this year, and the 2nd incident in Surf City”.
