26th MEU is now short of an infantry battalion commander in the middle of a deployment, thanks to political correctness.
Lieutenant Colonel Marcus Mainz, commander of Naval Amphibious Force, Task Force 51/ 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade after saying a word that could potentially be disparaging to the LGBTQ community.
While officials have stated that Mainz was fired due to “lost of trust and confidence in his ability to lead,” the Marine Corps Times received word from multiple sources that he was fired for allegedly using the term “faggot” or “faggoty” during a meeting with officers under his command.
Mainz was relieved of command mid-deployment around May 19, while the 26th MEU was operating in the Persian Gulf/Red Sea/Horn of Africa area of operations, and had just finished the Eager Lion exercises in Jordan.
The MEU had a wild liberty during a port visit in Italy, with several marines being punished for underaged drinking, including one who allegedly vandalized a construction site.
