A Marine Corps recruiter has been arrested and charged with a felony after he admitted to having sex a minor he’d met while trying to recruit her.

The recruiter, 28-year-old Luis Fernando Maya, was stationed in Des Plaines, Illinois, and has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The Marine Corps conducted their own investigation after learning that Maya had “inappropriate and sexual conversations” with potential recruits, according to the Chicago Tribune.

A 15-year-old girl came forward, saying that Maya contacted her through social media to join the Corps. Even after the Marine learned the girl was ineligible to join the Corps because she was too young to recruit, he continued contacting her through Facebook.

Eventually, the Marine convinced the 15-year-old girl to meet with him where he had intercourse with her at least two times in his van, the news source confirmed.

Maya made statements to authorities including Marine officers, local police, and attorneys that he knew the girl was 15 at the time.

A judge has set the bail for $150,000 and has ordered a no-contact order for anyone under age 18 including the victim.
