A 17-year-old Pittsburg High senior who was preparing to join the U.S. Marines collapsed and died Tuesday, police said.
Marines recruit collapsed at Veteran’s Park at 3841 Balfour Road while exercising with other recruits. Police were called at 5:48 p.m., and officers arrived to find Burrell unresponsive, with CPR being performed.
Police said that Burrell suffered an “apparently unexpected medical complication” before collapsing.
An ambulance took the teen to a hospital, where he died. Police did not say whether he ever regained consciousness.
