Certain jobs within the US Marines are subject to a hefty retention bonus of up to $90,000, with hopes that young Marines with key skills will stay in the Corps.
The FY2020 reenlistment bonuses are looking pretty good for Raiders, reconnaissance and explosive ordnance disposal.
“Retaining our experienced and qualified Marines remains one of the Commandant’s highest priorities,” it said. “Achieving retention goals is vital for shaping and sustaining the Marine Corps’ enlisted force.”
Offers will also be made for aviation maintenance, air traffic controllers, infantry squad leaders and Marines willing to enter jobs such as cyber-defense and intelligence.
In one example, a sergeant with 17 months to six years of active duty could rake in $90,000 if they are willing to retrain to become a counterintelligence/human intelligence specialist and add three additional years to their career.
According to the Stars and Stripes, first-enlistment riflemen, assaultmen, machine gunners and anti-tank gunners looking to become squad leaders under the Squad Leader Development Program could earn $54,000 for corporals and $57,000 for sergeants and above.
Marines adding three years in select occupations could get a $40,000 bonus in addition to the reinlistment bonus, ranging from $4,500 to $5,700, depending on rank and specialty.
In hopes of keeping Marine Aviators out of commercial airlines, the Corps is offering pilots bonuses ranging between $45,000 and $280,000, depending on aircraft and length of enlistment.
