An investigation into the death of a Marine who died Friday while attending boot camp at Parris Island in South Carolina is underway, Marine officials stated.
The recruit was training Friday sometimes during the day when he passed, according to the Washington Post.
Capt. Gregory Carroll, a Marine spokesman, stated that the circumstances surrounding the recruit’s death were not clear, but that NCIS is currently investigating.
The recruit’s identity is being withheld until the notification process has been completed.
A small number of recruits have died while attending boot camp. The news piece reported that a “handful of recruits and staff have died” post 9/11 — the recruits passed from drowning incidents and collapsing after exercise.
