A USMC veteran was killed in Ohio on Saturday after a man attempted to rob a Toledo Dollar General store with a replica firearm.
The incident took place at around 10 PM, when 56-year-old Dale Slocum walked into the store brandishing a replica firearm.
Swooping into action, 53-year-old Tommy Thacker and his partner of 13 years, 51-year-old Brook Clay attempted to stop the man, but were viciously stabbed with a knife Slocum had on his person.
According to a Facebook post announcing his fate, Thacker “normally packs a .40 [caliber pistol], but being [an] ex-combat Marine, I guess he thought he could disarm him.”
A member of a motorcycle club and a USMC veteran, Tommy “Spyder” Thacker succumbed to his wounds on the scene, leaving his partner behind.
Having dispatched the Slocum soon found himself face to face with Officer Jonathan Chio of Toledo PD, who shot the robber, mortally wounding him. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to 13ABC, Slocum had a lengthy criminal record, including burglary, robbery and aggravated theft and assault.
Thacker was active in several charitable causes, including Returning American Warriors (RAW), a biker-themed organization which aids current and past military personnel with whatever needs they have.
According to a statement by the Toledo Police, an investigation is still under way.
“At this time, detectives continue to gather and review evidence. Additional information will be released following autopsies by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office. Officer Chio remains on paid administrative leave at this time. Paid administrative leave following an officer-involved shooting is standard procedure. The suspect, Dale Slocum, had significant criminal history involving robbery and drug abuse,” the statement read.
