It happened on October 11, 2015 — Captain Trey Kennedy was the first on scene at a NATO helicopter crash in Afghanistan. Nine people were trapped inside. Despite the risk of explosion, Kennedy stood in jet fuel to get everyone out.
Kennedy was award the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism, America’s highest non-combat award for heroism, during the Clemson vs. Carolina game.
Four of the nine survived the crash thanks to Kennedy’s efforts.
