Sgt. Robert Watson

A Marine veteran vacationing on Cape Cod with his family was conned by a man who thanked him  for his service.

Disabled combat vet Sergeant Robert Watson, his wife, and two children were visiting the area from North Carolina and enjoying their day Wednesday at a water park.

A man and his son befriended them, and even thanked Watson for his service. When the family left their bag with him to go on a waterslide, the man stole it and took off.

The community — so upset by what happened — has offered help so the family can get back home and buy food and gas.

The Boston Globe reports the family received a donation from the US Marine Corporal Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Fund at Citizens Bank.

Police in Yarmouth, Mass. are now investigating the incident. One witness told them they saw a heavyset man leaving the park with a bag which matched the description of the stolen item.
