A US Marine was found dead in a Virginia hotel after the USMC’s 243rd birthday celebration- and her suspected killer is a fellow Marine- who just so happens to be her husband.
The corpse of 20-year-old Lance Corporal Natasha Rivera was discovered at the Crystal Gateway Marriott by Arlington County Police on the morning of November 3, reportedly killed by way of strangulation.
Her husband, 24-year-old Corporal Rodolfo Rivera, is currently being held without bond in the county jail as a homicide investigation continues.
According to Newsweek, several Marines familiar with the incident and speaking anonymously claim that the Corporal was heavily intoxicated at the time the strangling was believed to have taken place.
Though CPL Rivera was the one who called the police and went into custody without issue, he does not recall strangling his wife.
The Riveras had a child together, who was born in late September of 2018, and is currently in the custody of LCPL Rivera’s mother.
“She was so excited to have my nephew,” LCPL Rivera’s sister, Marilyn Soto said of her mother. “[LCPL Rivera] loved him so much in the short amount of time she had with him, she would’ve done anything for him. She is an amazing person that didn’t deserve what happened to her.”
The couple was stationed at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia. Quantico officials were notified of the murder shortly after police discovered the body.
“We are shocked and saddened by this tragic loss,” said Major Ken Kunze, a Marine Corps spokesman. “Our deepest sympathies are extended to the Marines and families involved.”
The incident remains under investigation.
