36-year-old Kevin Lima befriended a Marine veteran vacationing on Cape Cod with his family. He spent five hours conning the man — even going as far as thanking him for his service — then stole his wallet, cell phone, cash and more.
Disabled combat vet Sergeant Robert Watson, his wife, and two children were visiting the area from North Carolina and enjoying their day Wednesday at a water park.
The community — so upset by what happened — has offered help so the family can get back home and buy food and gas.
The Boston Globe reports the family received a donation from the US Marine Corporal Nicholas G. Xiarhos Memorial Fund at Citizens Bank to cover hotel costs and expenses.
Police in Yarmouth, Mass. investigated the incident and arrested the perpetrator. One witness told them they saw a heavyset man leaving the park with a bag which matched the description of the stolen item, which helped lead to his arrest.
