Throughout the years, the Marine Corps has earned its reputation as the nation’s force in readiness. Training Marines effectively and safely is of utmost importance to mission effectiveness.
Col. William H. Vivian, commanding officer, 7th Marine Regiment, presented Lance Cpl. Edwin Salgado, motor transport operator, 7th Marines, the Road Warrior Award in building 1951 June 2, 2016.
“This recognition was unexpected,” Salgado said. “I just did my job; I stayed out of trouble and followed all the rules applied on the road. It’s important to adhere to the rules set in place for your own safety and the safety of Marines around you.”
The award consists of a certificate from the Commandant of the Marine Corps and is presented to any military or government civilian employee who operates government motor vehicles and achieves mishap or violation-free driving in 2,500 mile increments.
According to Vivian, in the case of motor transport careful, driving habits go a long way in preventing Marines from getting injured and allow the regiment to train while being safe and effective.
“To get an award signed by the commandant and then to have it described as road warrior is a thrill,” Vivian said. “I think this sets a really good example for Salgado’s fellow Marines. What a great day for the Marines of ‘Magnificent Seventh’.”
