A Camp Lejeune Marine has been formally charged with attempting to strangle a three-year-old girl over the weekend.
Corporal Justin Teeter of Richlands has been charged by Onslow County Sheriff’s Department with felony child abuse, inflicting serious physical injury and assault by strangulation.
According to local news station WITN, Onslow County Deputies say they received a call on Saturday from Onslow Memorial Hospital after the three-year-old girl was brought in with serious injuries. The victim had cuts and bruises over her entire body and appeared to have been choked, according to a news release.
Public Affairs Officer 2nd Lieutenant Aleksandra Sawyer of the 2nd Marine Logistics Group told USMC Life, “the incident is under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the appropriate civilian authorities” and that “details surrounding the investigation will be released as they become available.”
Teeter, 22, was jailed on a $200,000 secured bond.
