TEHRAN (FNA)- Iraqi security experts announced that the new battle tactics used by Iraq’s joint military forces in their military operation against the ISIL in Mosul have surprisingly resulted in high casualties among the terrorists while preventing their escape paths to Syria.

“The unprecedented tactics of Iraq’s joint military forces have resulted in heavy losses on the ISIL terrorists in Mosul and blocked their escape routes to Syria,” Iraqi security expert and advisor of Arab-European Center for Confronting Terrorism Abdolkarim Khalaf told FNA on Saturday.

He underlined that the Iraqi volunteer forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) have sealed off the Western side of Mosul city to prevent the terrorists from fleeing to Syria.

Khalaf reiterated that the plan for liberating Mosul city has been prepared in such through details and so precisely that the ISIL never expected.

“The Iraqi army dispatched its troops to the Southern and Southwestern parts of Mosul before other parts in order to help its troops reach and come in control of Mosul borders,” he added.

On October 17, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced the start of the military operation to retake Mosul from the ISIL.

According to local media, about 30,000 Iraqi soldiers and 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters are taking part in the operation, backed by artillery and airstrikes carried out by the US-led international coalition.
