Senator Kay Hagan and Senator Mark Pryor introduced a bill on Thursday to restore cuts to military retiree pensions included in the bipartisan budget agreement. This wouldrestore a cut to the cost of living allowance for military retirees 62 and younger.

Hagan voted in favor of the budget agreement but she was opposed to the part of it that reduced military pensions. Hagan the only Senate Democrat, voted to allow additional amendments and create an opportunity to strike the military pension provision. This action did not pass.

“We must keep the promises we’ve made to our veterans, who have put their lives on the line to protect us, and I will be working with in the Senate to ensure they receive the benefits they have earned,” the Democratic Senator from Greensboro said in a statement on Thursday.
