General Kelly slated for board chairman of Marine Corps Heritage Foundation

General KellyA former commander of the U.S. Southern Command, retired Marine Gen. John F. Kelly, is the new chairman of the board of the Heritage Foundation, the nonprofit organization campaigning to fund completion of the National Museum of the in Triangle, Virginia.

It is an unpaid, voluntary position, according to the nonprofit set up in 1979 to support “historical programs of the in ways not possible through government funds.”

“General Kelly is considered to be one of the longest serving commanders in U.S. military history with a 45-year career,” a foundation announcement said. He left Miami and retired soon after handing off Southcom’s top job to Navy Adm. Kurt Tidd in January.
