A gang member was sentenced Tuesday to 82 years to life for killing a Marine who’d just returned from Afghanistan.
Alonso Corona shot 23-year-old Marine Victor Anaya at a birthday party.
“And these groups of eight to 10 gang members showed up uninvited, and they started using narcotics,” prosecutor Cole McKnight told Eyewitness News in March.
The party host asked the gang to leave and a fight quickly broke out, according to Bakersfield Now.
As tensions mounted, the Marine attempted to calm party guests, but his actions cost him his life.
The Marine’s cousin, David Anaya, was also shot but survived. Authorities believe that Jose Montoya Jr. shot David and is on the run.
