Today, the FY14 SSgt Retention Board MARADMIN 242/14 went live. This is big news for those Marines who have been passed over twice for promotion and who meet the criteria: between 15 to under 18 years of service.
In short the MARADMIN discusses how the Corps will move forward with retention within the SSgt Rank. A Retention Board will meet aboard MCB Quantico to review and determine individual retention eligibility. Those SSgts who are not selected for retention will be encouraged to apply for early retirement under the Enlisted Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) program in lieu of taking involuntary retirement. This decision comes subsequent to the Corps’ “voluntary early out” program failing to reach the numbers they had hoped to attain.
