Flesh-Eating Bacteria: Marine Veteran and Mom Faces Quadruple Amputation

Flesh eating bacteria Cindy MarineJune 13, 2015: The New York Daily News reports, “a mother of two and Marine veteran is in a fight for her life while battling flesh-eating bacteria, as well as a possible quadruple amputation.What began as a mysterious shoulder pain late last month has led to Cindy Martinez, 34, being hospitalized for nearly three weeks outside Atlanta, her equally heartbroken and frightened husband said.”

The Gwinnett County police officer, who met Cindy while also in the Marines, has taken a leave of absence to provide for her care. Cindy has undergone four surgeries to remove the dead muscle and tissue and was diagnosed with Necrotizing Fasciitis and Myositis.

In recent updates on a “Support Cindy and David Martinez Page” on Facebook, David writes that his wife’s fight is “in God’s hands.”

Flesh eating bacteria

The family’s GoFundMe page is currently raising funds for Cindy’s medical care and any after care expenses, according to the page.
