The first woman to pilot Marine One has been relieved of her command in North Carolina, according to reports from the USMC.
Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer Grieves of Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464 (HMH-464) has been relieved of her command due to loss of trust and confidence in her leadership abilities at Marine Corps Air Station New River.
According to a WWAYTV3, Major General Matthew Glavy of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing based his decision on Grieves’ failure to report when she was arrested by Onslow County deputies following a domestic assault charge.
Grieves, who had only commanded the unit since may, has been replaced by VMX-1 veteran Lieutenant Colonel Troy Callahan.
A female Marine since 1990, Grieves has served in both combat and as one of the five pilots of Marine One’s 2008 rotation, making her the first woman to do so.

I find it interesting that she is referred to as “a female marine”; what the hell other kind of marine could a woman be called? If the story is about a woman, she’s obviously a female!!!
I think this is total B/S..SHE HAS PROVEN HER LOYALTY AND HAS GOTTEN A RAW DEAL..SEMPER FI ..SO SORRY
So, her being arrested on domestic abuse charges is A BS reason to be relieved? What planet are you from?
Too bad to hear. She was a flight student of mine and one of the stronger student pilots that I’d flown. It was no surprise when she was selected for HMX-1.
A female Marine since 1990, . . . Ummm, was she a male Marine before that? And BTW – the month of May should be capped.
I believe that President Obama and Secretary Mabus made that an option
Men that are arrested for the same thing are never relieved of their command why is she?
Ummm yes, yes they are.
You’re joking right?
She was relieved of her command because SHE DID NOT REPORT the charge, and NOT merely because she was charged.
She was relieved because she failed to report for duty after she was arrested for domestic violence. Think anyone who didn’t report for duty because they were arrested for violenve of any kind might lose the confidence of their commander. We do not need anyone who has angry issues flying the President and her family around.
