A Norfolk active-duty Marine who never showed up for work is officially listed as missing.
Marine Staff Sgt. Joshua Whatley, 34, never showed up for work on Wednesday.
Whatley’s wife made national headlines when her You-Tube video discussed the fears that their children became sick with cancer after living in Laurel Bay military housing in South Carolina.
“He always wanted to be a Marine,” says Tiffany Lantz, Whatley’s sister.
Whatley spent 16 years as a Marine, deploying five times to Iraq and Afghanistan, according to WTKR.
Whatley’s sister believed the combat he had seen in the middle east affected him long-term.
“I don’t care who you are, if you go over there. You’re going to come back different end of story. You see things you are not supposed to see as a human being,” said Lantz.
The family has filed a missing persons report with Norfolk Police. Authorities are investigating, but do not believe his disappearance is suspicious.
