This weekend I got to sneak away, toddler free, and do a little shopping. I decided to brave the crowds at the South Plains Mall for what is called “tax free weekend”. I had never heard of this before but I knew I wanted to score some deals for our fall wardrobes. Who doesn’t love to be dolled on a dime? Here are some of my favorite back to school items for the kiddos– and I threw in a couple finds for us moms too!
I love TOMS! I have been buying these for my daughter Harper since she could walk. They are so cute and so easy to slip on. Last fall I got her the pink glitters. She wore them every day and they held up great! They may seem a little pricey, but I promise they are worth it. I decided to go with a fun patterned pair this year.
I picked up these adorable sweaters and t-shirts at Crazy 8. They were having an awesome sale! I have yet to spend a winter here in Texas, so I decided to start with some sweaters before I buy any winter coats.
Dresses with leggings are my go-to with Harper. It’s all about layering! It’s the perfect outfit for fall and then when it starts to get cooler, just add a sweater or a coat. No need to buy a whole new wardrobe!
Just for you USMC Life readers – I scoped out the boys section at the Gap and Old Navy. I loved all of the preppy button up shirts but I know they’re not always practical. Both stores have so many fun graphic T-Shirts. Check them out!

These jeans from Express are amazing. The moment I put them on I was in love. They have a little stretch to them, which is perfect for chasing kiddos and not having to hike up your pants every 5 seconds.
CAMO!!! Can you believe that one of this fall’s hottest trends is military inspired. I showed my husband my newest purchases – a pair of camouflage jeans from the Gap and a dark green utility vest from Forever 21. He totally laughed at me! I told him I was drawn to it since I don’t get to see him in his cammies anymore. Recruiting duty means dress blue “Deltas” everyday – I am not complaining! I plan to pair the camo jeans with a grey lace sweater to make it a more feminine look.
Statement blazers are a great way to put a look together without much effort! I saw so many different styles, patterns and colors when I was out shopping. I ended up getting the navy polka dot blazer. It will be so easy to throw on over a white t-shirt with my new express jeans. Here are a few of my favorites:
