Corps investigating stray bullet strikes on Okinawa

A car of a Japanese worker engaged in a dam construction project at a U.S. base in has sustained damage apparently caused by a stray , defense ministry and local municipality officials said Friday.

The car parked at the Afuso dam construction site on the premises of the U.S. Marine Corps’ Camp Hansen in Onna village was found damaged at around 6 p.m. Thursday, with a also found nearby.

The incident prompted the Japanese Defense Ministry’s bureau to lodge a protest with the U.S. military, urging it to take measures to prevent a recurrence and ensure the safety of citizens working there.

A water tank at the construction site was also found broken at around 2:30 p.m. on April 6, with a found inside the tank.

The U.S. base has a place to carry out live-fire exercises.
