Combat Center welcomes back ‘Marines Got Talent’

Marines Got TalentMarines and sailors from the across the installation performed and showcased their unique talents to the Combat Center community during the Single Marine Program’s 7th annual Marines Got Talent Show at the Sunset Cinema, Aug. 12, 2016.

Eleven competitors showcased a variety of talents, from performing rock and country songs to conducting a step performance.

“There are three things that SMP tries to do things for our Marines; give them the opportunity to volunteer, contribute to their quality of life and provide recreation,” said Lovetta Scipio, events coordinator, SMP. “This event does all three and it gives the service members on base the opportunity to showcase their talents.”

For the Marines performing, the event provided them with an opportunity to express themselves while taking time to perform for their friends and peers.

“I chose to participate because I felt that it would be a good thing to do,” said Pfc. Jason Mitchell, student, Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School. “I performed a song that I wrote because I wanted to do something that was meaningful to me.”

Throughout the competition the audience gave all the competitors a warm welcome and a hearty applause upon finishing their performances.

“We have a lot of people doing some great performances,” Scipio said. “All of the people gave their time to practice so they can participate and compete in this event. The people who come to watch love seeing the talents of their fellow service members.”

Seaman Anthony Roxas, corpsman, Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms, won first place in the competition with a compilation of songs from the 90’s.

At the end of the competition, all the participants of the show were given one final round of applause and cheers as they walked off the stage.
