The Marine was driving a 2006 Chevy Silverado truck northbound shortly after 8 p.m. on Feb. 26 when he struck the back of a semi that was slowing to enter a highway inspection site. The truck became trapped under the semi and the Marine died at the scene.

22 year-old Shannon Lance Lee was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA — the 57-year-old man driving the semi-truck was not injured.

He was laid to rest on March 7th in his hometown of Kayenta, Arizona.

He was escorted to his burial – with full military honors – by his fellow Navajo of the Navajo/Hopi Honor riders.

Thirteen people donated over $1,400 to help Lee’s family pay for funeral expenses.

His family member Jay Lee said, “He will forever be in all of our hearts because he was a brother, a son, a husband, a nephew, a great friend and so much more.”
