A “potential explosive” was found  near a U.S. Navy recruitment center in Stamford, Connecticut  this morning. WFSB reports, police discovered a suspicious package near the center on High Ridge Road around 9 a.m.

Someone apparently became suspicious after spotting a ‘stray envelope’, and alerted authorities.

Police Capt. Richard Conklin told the Harford Courant  that a large, manila-style envelope looked ‘out of place’ near the building, at 1096 High Ridge Road.

The building and surrounding plaza were evacuated and the bomb squad called in as a precaution, he said.

A portion of High Ridge Road was shut down for about an hour, while police investigated.

No injuries were reported.

Conklin added :  “99.999 percent of these” calls end up being false alarms. However, police aren’t taking any chances especially in light of the recent terror threats and because a military function is performed at this location.
